Watercolour Painting Classes with Nicky Bell
Nicky is a contemporary visual artist specialising in ink and watercolour painting, photography, and film within the genre of landscape. Hugely inspired by nature and the natural world with reference to environment and ecology.
Using free flowing paint techniques that evoke movement and light predominantly of the sea and land. Capturing the vastness of space and atmosphere of the moment, documenting place and time.
Nicky's painting technique is a personal development through self taught processes, free flowing and mindful, based on the wet into wet technique.
She enjoys sharing her skills by teaching others the enjoyment of painting and believes art is a great tool for expression and shared time as well as a very personal space for relaxation and creativity.
23rd April 2024 - Working in Watercolours - Big Atmospheric Skies
Exploring ‘wet on dry’ and ‘wet into wet’ methods to create beautiful paintings from reference imagery and the imagination. Creating land laying next the coast, imagine weathered outcrops and Atmospheric Skies.
Nicky will briefly explain the benefits of paper types and paint brands for a more enjoyable painting experience post class. Initial colour mixing introduction on her own unique techniques for creating ‘non muddy’ paintings.

Exploring ‘wet on dry’ and ‘wet into wet’ methods to create beautiful paintings from reference imagery and the imagination. From calm shimmering seas to rough stormy seas, create simple pleasing artworks exploring the creation of atmosphere in your paintings.

11th June 2024 Ink Seascape Painting Workshop with Nicky Bell Artist
One of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. Painting in the traditional style is known today in Chinese as guó huà, meaning "national painting".
Learn to create Chinese style artworks through the use of traditional tools and simple techniques using a range of inks and papers.
Landscape painting was regarded as the highest form of Chinese painting, and generally still is. In the north, artists painted pictures of towering mountains, using strong black lines, ink wash, and sharp, dotted brushstrokes to suggest rough stone. In the south artists painted the rolling hills and rivers of their native countryside in peaceful scenes done with softer, rubbed brushwork. These two kinds of scenes and techniques became the classical styles of Chinese landscape painting. We will use these techniques to create watery seascapes and estuary marshes where the river meets the sea.
