Drypoint Etching Workshop Using Tetrapak - Sustainable Printmaking

This workshop is designed to bridge the gap between traditional printmaking and sustainable up-cycling. By using Tetra Pak containers (like milk or juice cartons), artists can achieve the sophisticated look of drypoint and intaglio without the high cost or chemical hazards of metal plates.

Workshop Overview: The Sustainable Press

Goal: Transform everyday waste into intricate, hand-printed art.

Materials Provided: Recycled cartons, etching needles/awls, intaglio ink, scrim, dampened printmaking paper, and an etching press.

An eco-friendly intaglio/collagraph printing technique for creating unique prints.

Engraving on Tetra Pak has the same requirements as traditional drypoint engraving, except that the material engraved on is recycled, accessible to everyone and practically ready for use, unlike copper or zinc plates, which require long preparation. This gain in time and money will allow you to work freely and spontaneously, without worrying about “ruining a plate”, and Tetra Pak is perfectly suitable for making limited series of prints.
